Students in Action - August 2017
Each month we provide a coast to coast snapshot of some of our students in action!
Now that school’s back in session for the year, our Student in Action section is back up and running. Over the summer we provided host families with short articles related to helping their international students feel welcomed and adjust to life in the United States. Since August is here and schools are starting up again, we are happy to announce our first Students in Action for the 2017-2018 academic year, Carl Christensen and Albert Zhao.
Carl Christensen
All Saints Academy, Winter Haven, FL

Being an international student is very new to me but my host family and guys on the football team are helping me adjust. This makes it easier to really enjoy my stay in the United States. Although school hasn’t started yet, I am very interested in seeing how English will be presented in class. One of the things I love the most about where I am staying is that, despite Florida being a lot hotter than Denmark, I have a nice pool I can swim in to cool off. Although I miss my family, I enjoy eating the American food. My host family cooks really well, so I am enjoying tasting many American dishes.
Albert Zhao
Damien High School, La Verne, CA

I am really enjoying my stay with my host family. I feel like I’ve got a new family that I can call my own, one just for me in the United States. I especially like the fact that I have new siblings that I can play with. I like helping them with their homework and supporting them when they need it. I am excited to see what this year brings for me and hoping that I can continue to grow.
