Chinese-Style Honey Hoisin Sticky Ribs

Prep Time - 2 to 3 hours

Service Size/Amount - Serves 2 - 3 people

Level of Difficulty - Easy

Ingredients

1 rack of pork back ribs, cut in half

1 peeled and quartered onion

1 peeled carrot sliced into disks

1 inch piece of ginger sliced

1 head of garlic sliced in half through the middle of the cloves

1 c any brand soy sauce

2 tbsp hoisin sauce

2 tbsp oyster sauce

1 tbsp rice wine vinegar

2 tsp soy sauce

1 tsp sriracha sauce

⅓ c honey

1 green onion cut into slivers

1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Water

Instructions

  1. Place ribs into a heavy bottomed pot. Add the rest of the ingredients and cover with water.
  2. Place the pot over medium high heat and bring liquid to a boil. Once the liquid comes to a boil, reduce heat to low and add lid. Simmer for approximately 1 ½ - 2 hours until the meat shrinks on the bone. You can check for tenderness by slicing a small piece of meat off the bone.
  3. Remove the ribs and discard liquid.

To Finish the Ribs

  1. In a small bowl, combine the hoisin, oyster, soy, and sriracha sauce along with the vinegar and honey. Whisk to combine ingredients.
  2. Heat the oven to 450 degrees and place ribs onto a cookie sheet lined with foil. Using a grill brush, lightly cover both sides of the ribs with the sauce.
  3. Continue to coat ribs until they take on a shiny quality and bake until they start to darken and caramelize.
  4. Bake ribs for 15 minutes or better yet, grill on the barbecue until slightly charred.
  5. Remove ribs from oven and cut them into pieces. Serve with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and green onion.

Recipe Notes

If you choose to make this recipe with lamb or beef, make sure to monitor the cooking time as the meat may cook differently. Serve over a bed or rice or along with noodles and enjoy!
