I. Arrival Feedback
Question 1: Describe the communication and pick-up coordination you had with your student pre-arrival.*
Question 2: Who was present for the student pick-up at the airport? Was it just yourself or other family members or was there any coordinated carpool with other host?*
Question 3: Were there any issues with the student's flight/ luggage or meet up? or Did everything related to student arrival go smoothly and as planned?*
Question 4: Describe how the student seemed at pick up and the first day transition. Was your student excited, tired, home-sick, communicative or shy? Were there any immediate needs that your student had that were met (a meal on the ride home, snacks, hygiene items, etc)?*
II. Arrival Checklist
Question 1: Please describe communication that your student had with their parents at arrival: we want to make sure they sent a safe arrival message to them.*
Question 2: Aside from the typical behaviors associated with a student's travel overseas (jet lag, homesickness, etc.), is the student exhibiting any behavior(s) that are concerning to you? If yes, please describe.*
Question 3: Please describe any specific home/house expectations that were reviewed with the student or you will be reviewing. This could include but not limited to: curfew, meal times, school ride times, food/cooking access, bathroom/bedroom cleanliness expectation. Does your student understand all that was communicative and agree to what was shared? If not, please describe response and what may need clarifying.*
Question 4: Often, meal/food changes may take some time getting used to. Have you talked to your student about food preferences or local ethnic groceries they may want to visit and facilitating the visit?*
Question 5: What school supply needs did/does your student have and have they been met or is there a plan to shop for what is needed?*
Question 6: How has your student settled in to his/her bedroom? Are there any pending needs in the space? Is the student enjoying the space?*
Question 7: How effectively is your student able to communicate with you and do you have any concerns regarding your student’s ability to communicate with you?*
Question 8: So far does your student seem to be acculturating ok to your home, school and country? Has the student been able to join you/your family in shared activities? Please describe.*
Question 9: Have you already facilitated your student to be set up with a bank account or local phone number and/or prepaid data purchase? If so, please share the student’s local number. If not, please describe the plan for when you will be facilitating this with your student. It’s important students are reachable and accessible on their phones for safety. Should you need assistance or support with the phone or bank process, please let your COORDINATOR know.*
Please note that host parents should never add international students to their plan. Students should set up their own separate account.
Question 10: Please describe any safekeeping of the student’s passport and I-20 documentation along with medical insurance cards. It’s important that student and host know the safekeeping location of these items and have copies. Ideally, students should give these important documents to the host. Important documents such as the Power of Attorney, Custody Agreement, immunization records are also important to have.*
File Upload: Please upload pictures from your student’s arrival and first experiences with you. Pictures can be of meals together, your student’s first day of school, a picture of you and your student together and or with other family members, an outing together, etc. Upload up to 5 here, at least one picture is required. *
